To mark World Photography Day in August, Copyright Alliance is holding a FREE webinar titled “Photographers’ Rights: Navigating Copyright Realities” on Thursday, August 8 at 12:00 pm MT (2:00 pm ET).
During the event, photographers will learn how their works are protected by copyright, get practical tips for enforcing their rights against online infringement, and learn about the hot-topic copyright issues affecting photographers today, including the profound impact of AI on their creative craft.

Rachel Kim

Rachel Kim is VP, Legal Policy & Copyright Counsel at the Copyright Alliance where she has advocated for and worked on education and outreach to the creative community on a variety of domestic and international copyright policy issues—including AI, CCB regulations, Copyright Office, modernization, regulations, registration practices, and other copyright and policy initiatives.
Prior to rejoining the Copyright Alliance in 2021 to support its mission to protect and strengthen the rights of creators and copyright owners, she was of Counsel at CBS Studios and a Law Clerk and Contracts Specialist at NBCUniversal, advising and working on a variety of legal and business issues arising from television production. She was also a Legal Fellow and Intern at the Copyright Alliance, an Intern at the National Music Publishers’ Association, and an Intern at the Legal Aid Justice Center.
Rachel earned her J.D. from the Antonin Scalia Law School at George Mason University, and her B.A. in Chinese Language/Literature from George Mason University. She is admitted to practice in Washington, DC. In her spare time, Rachel enjoys reading, playing the piano, poetry writing, exercising, and spending time and fellowship with family and friends.
Alicia Wagner Calzada
Deputy General Counsel · National Press Photographers Association (NPPA)
Alicia Wagner Calzada is the Deputy General Counsel for the National Press Photographers Association, and helps advance NPPA’s advocacy priorities through legislative advocacy, litigation, and educational efforts. Alicia’s practice focuses on media law, First Amendment law and copyright. She is a past president of the NPPA, and prior to becoming a lawyer in 2011 was a professional photojournalist for over 20 years, working as a staffer for several newspapers and as an independent photographer for several years.
Thomas Maddrey
Chief Legal Officer & Head of National Content and Education · American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP)
Thomas Maddrey serves as Chief Legal Officer & Head of National Content and Education for the American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP). For more than a decade, Thomas was a commercial and fine art photographer in his eponymous photography business Tom Maddrey Images. He received his artistic training at the Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, CA. After moving back to Texas, he co-founded a fine art photography gallery in Dallas, Blue Square Art. He then went on to create the Eclipse Photography Institute, an online- and retail-based education company dedicated to helping photographers learn about business and creative skills through workshops, courses, and a series of DVDs that were sold in over 800 stores throughout the world. He then transitioned to law to specifically work with photographers and visual creators. He has authored over a dozen amicus briefs at all levels of the judiciary including the US Supreme Court. Thomas serves on the board of Texas Accountants and Lawyers for the Arts, and Arts Counsel Texas. He is the former Chair of the Entertainment, Art, and Sports Law section of the Dallas Bar Association.
David Trust
Chief Executive Officer · Professional Photographers of America (PPA)
David Trust is the CEO of the Professional Photographers of America (PPA). He first joined PPA back in 1998 as its first Director of Marketing, and a little more than a year later he was selected to become their newest CEO. David spent 11 years in television news as a reporter and anchor before making the transition into the marketing world. During his career, he has served as the director of marketing for the St. Louis Cardinals AAA baseball franchise and headed up St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital’s national corporate marketing department. He is a regular presence on Capitol Hill where he fights for the rights of photographers. In fact, he’s been called on to testify before Congress on multiple occasions. He is also a proponent for courageous leadership, and teaches leadership classes and seminars around the country.
