Curious Theatre Company’s BLACK.: Performance and Discussion

Leadership Arts participants and alumni are invited to participate in a special virtual performance and facilitated discussion featuring Curious Theatre Company’s BLACK.

Similar to a “book club,” this Leadership Arts Alumni Network (LAAN) “art club” event will offer participants a collective arts experience focusing on relevant topics and then a facilitated conversation to share reactions and reflections. CBCA is offering this engaging and important event for free to the Leadership Arts Alumni Network. If you’d like to make a donation, you can do so here.

About Curious Theatre Company’s BLACK.

After one more young black man dies at the hands of police, a community is shaken. A conversation evolves between two mothers at the vigil – one white and one black. Through their interaction, BLACK. gets to the heart of the matter on communication between races.

BLACK. was written by Lamaria Aminah as a part of the 2016 Curious New Voices Summer Intensive. Lamaria’s first play, BLACK. was born of her involvement with Black Lives Matter 5280 and her desire to articulate a common problem she saw in our country – we don’t know how to talk about race. The play was so successful in sparking conversation, Curious took the piece to the Colorado Thespian Festival where hundreds of young theatremakers had an intense and important experience. The play opened doors to conversations among classmates and provided a safe platform for discussion.
